I found a great article on Reality TV.

Although I do enjoy some reality TV. This is a great letter to TV Execs about Reality TV

Smash your TV

It is a really evil device the TV. But I did tape Friends last night. The local channel was showing it at 3:00 a.m. so I decide I would tape it. to be watched another time. Hey I added a link to left. Clark Howard is an incredible consumer advocate. If you have him you area you should listen to him. I believe the best way to simplify your life is to start with your money.

BTW, friends was a stinking rerun. ARGH. MORE RERUNS.

The Apprentice

Ok so our favorite show just went off. The APPRENTICE. Bowie Hogg got fired. He was such a stand up guy! Oh Well.. Nick has turned in to a real jerk. Troy is a great guy I hope that he doesn't get the boot next week. It seems like he might!!

ARGH!!! RERUNS!!!

AND Will and GRACE is on...it is a rerun...........argh!!

One Channel - NO FRIENDS

Do they think I am stupid. Like I am going to stay up till 3:00 a.m. to watch friends. They showed the debate over FRIENDS. They are still talking about the DEBATE and we are going to miss WILL and GRACE. ARGH!!!! Tell them to SHUT UP!!!

This is Awesome - Space Invaders

This will get rid of my I hate TV Blues

Hate TV

I hate TV today. Nothing but crap on one channel. So we played cards last night. That was awesome. I won. And then we watched Whale Rider. Ok Movie.

John Kerry

... Too Funny To pass up.

The Apprentice

I love the Apprentice one of the many great things about NBC. I also love friends. I am really afraid that the local channel here is going to show the debate instead of friends or the apprentice. I WILL BE MAD. I can't change the channel...... Don't get me wrong. I care about politics but I just love the Apprentice more.

Snowed In Day Two! Wow!

Day two. Can't get out of the camp. We are still snowed in.

The beauty of living simple sometimes that it is so simple. Ok, I know that sounds like a very stupid statement. But let me give you some examples:

1) I have dial-up internet - It is either ON or OFF. I don't have to worry about whether the cable company or the DSL is having low bandwidth issues

2) We live in a beautiful area. We go for a walk. It is so simple. We don't have to get in a bus/car for a beautiful park. We live in the park. We go out our door.

3) I think reading is so simple. Whether you reading peoples web logs, magazine's or books. It is simple.

But I know it is boring to read about such simplicity. I am not trying to win awards by ranting on about simplicity. I am striving for simplicity. In every aspect of our lives.

I think some where along the way we missed it. I think you can have technology and live simple. It is a fine balance. But we let things make our lives complicated. More on that later.

But the best example of simple living are indoor cats. That eat, sleep, poop, play and then sleep some more. Now that is simple.

Some people don't want to live simple. Me I do. I don't want to spend gobs of money on crap. I do sometimes. I found this great discussion board on Living Below your means. I put a link in the menu section. More later

Living Simple.

Simplicity ...ARGH!!

Well today is one of those days where you wish you weren't so SIMPLE. We are snowed in. Now this might be a southern thing, b/c I haven't mentioned this yet but we are in the south. So snow in the south means everything shuts down. That people have bought all the bread and milk for miles around (that is a blog by itself)

I used the term snow but it really is just sleet. We can't go anywhere in this rural area. The roads aren't passable. So we are watching TV right now. The One Channel so just lots of Today show right now. But we are about to hit the time of day where crappy TV comes on. SOAP OPERAS - sorry soap fans. Alright then!! These are the days when my wife and I say alright we are going to get satellite. (We have decide not to get a satellite to SIMPLIFY our lives).

Most days. One Channel makes decisions easy. We don't have to surf channels. We either like it or we don't. And if we don't we cut it off. We either go outside, read, play a board game or surf the internet. If you don't realize TV is a trap. When we go to visit relatives I will sit in front of the TRAVEL CHANNEL all day and watch the World Poker Tour marathon. You know it is true. You have done it.

But today.....ONE Channel and snowed in.

Living Simple with One Channel. More later!

One Channel - A brief introduction

In November of 2001, I began a new journey. For years I have been working at Camps, but that was in the summers. The camps I worked at was rural, but there was a town reasonably close enough where you could get groceries within five minutes. When I moved to my new camp (which will remain nameless) I moved to a true rural area. It is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. I love nature and I love the outdoors. But when not engaged in those activities. I just like any other male surround my life with gadgets.

So by November 2001 television had become a part of my life. Just like most Americans my life had become wrapped in the television. It is where I got my news and entertainment (and still is to some degree). When moving into my job provided home I was furnished a TV Antenna (what in the world is this antique device). ***Now let me digress for a moment. Growing up as a kid in Atlanta we got all the network channels. Cable TV wasn't the norm. I remember when we got cable. So I am not one of those people growing only knowing cable. I mean I can remember my Commodore 64 and 300 baud modem. *** So back to the story. I proceeded to plug the antenna cable into my TV and found that I got ONE CHANNEL. Hey this is better than no channels as I was thinking. That one Channel was NBC. (Not insult others but I was thinking of all channels to just get this was the best to have).

This Blog is to document what just one channel (and living in a rural area) has done for our lives. The coming blogs will be of current and past events that we have encountered. We live in a modest sized house (provided by the camp in which I am employed), we have three cats and my wife is pregnant with our first child. She is also a financial/debt advisor. To bring our lives back to a more community oriented life. We aren't there. This will be the beginning of striving and what happens along the way. My wife will be adding her thoughts to our journey.
